Mock The Knife
The New York International Fringe Festival
August 2003

Mock the Knife follows the winding path of William, a young man in terrible pain for no apparent reason. The absence of love, the lurking of an ambiguous peer, and an overwhelming urge to break-through drives the hysteric narrative. In the piece’s center, William finds himself in an extended dreamscape where he acts out the struggle of Kaius Caesar, Julius’ unsung brother, slaying his famous sibling in a misguided attempt to connect. Mock the Knife resolves itself in its own exhaustion, offering a blessing and grace to that which has yet to come.
Mock The Knife pre-dates The Old Kent Road Theater, which was established in 2005. However, we consider it a part of our history. It also marks the beginning of Eric Bland's collaboration with Charlie Hewson.
