HOME SHOWS   ABOUT   COLLABORATORS
The Old Kent Road Theater is a New York theater collective started by Eric Bland and Scott Eckert in 2005. We have staged six productions under the Old Kent Road Theater banner and two shows prior to the collective's formation. The Old Kent Road Theater has independently produced its work and also produced in conjunction with various New York City festivals (New York International Fringe Festival, Midtown International Theatre Festival, Tiny Theater Festival, Pretentious Festival, WonderLand Theater Festival and The Baby Jesus One-Act Jubilee).
Seeing theater as the preferred medium for the manipulation of memory, the Old Kent Road Theater’s plays attempt to create near-likenesses of reality, both the environmentally sensual and the interiorly obsessive. In this blurred, off-center space we hope to engage with the audience as a collection of idiosyncratic perspectives. Here we feel free to indulge in celebratory anguish, art, opacity, and the sheer joy of hiding and seeking, all of this justified by the fact that we will all die some day. ;-) We also do awkwardly bad jokes and awkwardly good wrestling.
Martin Denton of NYTheatre.com says the Old Kent Road Theater, "continues to demonstrate real promise and growth... These are definitely artists to watch out for," and that Bland specifically, "is certainly a writer to keep an eye on."
