In Big Cities We Are Sentimental
Ontological-Hysteric Theater
March 2008
In Big Cities We Are Sentimental delves into sad love and suicide. In bursts of text, pieces of sound, fractures of movement, and one elaborate puppet-sculpture used far too modestly, six contemporaries mark a path through casual melancholy and near-misses, negotiating time and space like the subject does in a waking dream—occasionally awed but all-together accepting of circumstance. It is a happy play, if you are the sort who gets your happiness from mellow floods of caffeine and the mistake of waking too early on weekend mornings.
